The Heart of Texas Golf Academy says goodbye today to a co founder of the organization. Charlie Norris, better referred to as "ole 1 putt", passed away today February 25th. Charles was 81. Aside from being my best friend, Charles was a great guy and friend to everyone he met. He served in the Oklahoma legislature, the United States Navy, and as he would be glad to tell you was an Honorary prince of the Chickasaw Indian Nation. Charlie will be returning to Tishamingo Oklahoma to be laid to rest. I'm going to miss you my friend, play well. With a total score of 411. 68 strokes ahead of second place. Camden Brown, Alissa Foitek, Julia Lancaster and Kelly Williams (all Academy Students) took the top four places. Camden and Kelly tied for Medalist honors, with Camden winning in a scorecard playoff. Way to go guys! After qualifying 4 weeks in a row for Nationwide events, "The Squire" as we sometimes call him, this week recorded a top 10 finish. With scores of 68-68-66-67 totaling 15 under Adam was in contention for a win right to the end. His top 10 finish gets him exempt into next weeks tournament in Oregon. Thanks to all who continue to support Adam in his quest for a PGA tour card. Congrats to Adam Meyer on qualifying for the Nationwide Cox Classic with a score of 65 , the same score he shot last week when trying to qualify for the PGA event. Adam is coming off a runner-up finish this week at Waterloo Open where he shoot 65-67 and lost in a playoff. Adam has a 66.8 scoring average for his last 15 rounds and is simply playing awesome. We wish him the best this week. The Cox Classic is televised on the golf channel beginning Thursday. Adam will be shooting for his 4th win of the year. 7-23-07 Congrats to Salado sophmore Ryan O'Rear for qualifying for this years US Amatuer to be held at Olympic Club in San Francisco. Ryan shot 67-70 to qualify. Every since winning state this year Ryan has simply picked his game up a notch and is having a great summer. We wish Ryan the best in California. 7-23-07 Congrats to Gabby Domingez on winning the Women's US Amateur qualifying. Congrats to 2a state champ Ryan O'rear 70-72, 1a state champ gabby Dominguez 75-68, 3a runner up Aaron Massey 75-70, and 1a bronze medal winner Whitley Patterson 75-80 for their performances in the state tournament in Austin this week. Aaron lost a five hole playoff for first and Whitley lost a 1 hole playoff for second. Also congrats to the Salado boys for bringing home silver and the Meridian girls for bringing home bronze as well as the Gatesville boys finishing forth 2 shots away from a bronze of their own. Way to go guys. Congrats to Adam Meyer for winning another TightLies Tour event in Lubbock this week. Congrats to 1A Meridian Girls, 2A Spearman Boys, Salado Boys, Salado Girls, 3A Gatesville Boys, China Spring Girls, 4A Midway Girls and their school coaches for making it to the state tournament to be held in Austin May 7-11. Its Gainesville's first trip since 1969, Salado girls will be trying to repeat last years victory and China Spring girls will be going back for the first time since they won their 4th title in 98. Also a special thanks to all the academy students for representing our academy so well. In all 37 students will be representing us at the state tourney. Without a doubt some will bring home gold, silver, and bronze medals. Gabriel Dominguez from Chilton finished 1st and Whitley Patterson from Meridian 2nd in 1a girls. Stu Martin from Spearman and Ryan O'rear from Salado both finished first in 2A boys in their respective regions. Kevin finished with a 4.0 gpa and is now 17th in the nation with a 73 scoring average. Not bad for a freshman. Congrats to Andy Doeden for earning his Canadian Tour Card. After his first win last week, Adam Meyer shot 17 under to finish second this week. His efforts were good enough to earn him "rookie of the year". Adam finished 6th on the money list. Adams final round 64, which matched his second round score, was good enough to give him a 1 stroke victory. HOT Golf Inc. owner Ray Lamb purchased Lake Waco Country Club this July. The new name is "The Lake Country Club". Plans include a new restaraunt, remodeling and stocking the pro shop, the re-opening of the camp ground, as well as much needed renovations to the golf course. The Lake C.C. will serve as the home for the Heart of Texas Junior Golf Foundation (a non-profit organization dedicated to growing the game and the developement of junior programs). Congratulations to Adam Meyer who has qualified to play in this week's PGA Tour stop, the Valero Texas Open, after winning a qualifier on Monday at the Golf Club of Texas with a nine-under-par score of 63. The Valero Texas Open will be contested at LaCantera Golf Club (Par 70; 6,896 yards) in San Antonio, Texas, from Sept. 16-19. Live internet scoring of the event will be available on www.pgatour.com. In addition, ESPN will have live television coverage each day of the tournament beginning at 3:00 p.m. (CT).
